CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Bethel erased a halftime deficit and took the lead early in the second half, but Campbellsville scored in the closing minutes to hand the Wildcats a 3-2 Mid-South Conference loss Thursday night at Finley Stadium.
An own goal in the 31st minute put Campbellsville ahead 1-0 at the break. Bethel responded quickly after halftime. Serzhan Aitzhanov tied the match at 1-1 in the 49th minute, and Tim Haans scored in the 56th to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead.
Mark Holton pulled the Tigers even in the 68th minute. The match remained tied until Ethan John scored with 3:18 left in regulation. Bethel pressed for an equalizer, getting a header from Isaac Joaho Espinoza and a blocked shot on a Sam Neill effort in the final minutes.
The Wildcats outshot Campbellsville 16-11, including an 11-8 advantage in the second half. Nobert Ochieng and Luiz Antonio Costa Lima took three shots apiece, while Bethel goalkeeper Mauricio Gonzalez De Leon made two saves.
Bethel moves to 3-4-1 overall and 1-2 in MSC play. Campbellsville improves to 3-4-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the conference.
