COLUMBIA, Mo. – In a top twenty match-up in Columbia Saturday the 18th -ranked Bethel Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season falling to the No. 17 Columbia Cougars 1-nil.
Bethel dropped to 5-1-1 while the Cougars improved to 2-1-1.
Bethel outshot the Cougars 15-14 and had a 6-4 margin in shots on goal.
Columbia's Wil Essner scored the only goal of the game early in the second half.
The Wildcats almost converted on a corner kick in the 80th minute, but Columbia's Molto Munoz was able to get his glove on it to preserve the shutout for the Cougars.
The Wildcats return home Tuesday to host Oakland City. The action begins at 7 p.m. in Walter Butler Stadium.
