HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats and the (RV) Freed-Hardeman Lions closed out their weekend series Saturday in Henderson.
The Wildcats hung on to take a 7-6 win in the first game. The Lions gained the split with a 10-6 win in the nightcap.
The Cats took a 2-0 lead in the fourth in game one. Jake McDaniel had an RBI single and Jose Olmeda homered in the inning. In the fifth, the Wildcats exploded for five runs. Joseph Hufstedler hit a two-run homer to give the Cats a 4-0 lead. Bryan Catala later scored when McDaniel grounded into a fielder's choice. Olmeda scored on a wild pitch. Paden New had an RBI single to cap off the inning. FHU scored five runs in the fifth and a single run in the sixth but Bethel held on for the 7-6 victory. Marco Santa was the winner with Alexis Rodriguez picking up the save. Colton Huntt suffered the Lion loss. FHU outhit Bethel 11-10.
The Lions scored four runs in the second in game two to take the early lead. Catala drove in a run with a single in the third to cut into the FHU lead. The Lions increased their lead to 6-1 with two runs in the fourth. In an unusual fifth inning, the Wildcats plated four runs. Olmeda, Ivan Vega and J T Morgan all drew bases loaded walks for three of the runs. Olmeda later scored on a wild pitch and the Cats were within one at 6-5. The Lions scored three runs in the sixth to lead 9-5. McDaniel singled in a run in the seventh but Freed matched that score with a run in the bottom of the inning. FHU outhit the Wildcats 12-10. Both teams had trouble scoring with runners on base. Bethel left ten men on base while FHU left nine runners on. Tyler Proctor was charged with the loss. Luis Torres-Lopez picked up the Lion win.
Bethel finished the day at 13-28 overall and 9-15 in the MSC.
Freed-Hardeman is 27-17 and 14 -10.
The Wildcats are home Tuesday hosting Brescia at 4 p.m.
