MCKENZIE, Tenn. –The Blue Mountain Christian Toppers used the long ball to defeat the Bethel Wildcats Tuesday afternoon at Wildcat Park in McKenzie. The Toppers hit three homers in the seven-inning affair to win 7-5.
The Toppers scored a run in the first to take the early lead. Blue Mountain added three runs in the third and led 4-0.
J T Morgan put the Cats on the board with an RBI double in the fourth. Adriel Vega scored to make it 4-1 after four innings.
The Toppers added three runs in the top of the sixth to break the game open at 7-1. Hayden Arant's second home run of the day accounted for the runs.
Austin Beech also slugged a homer in the third for BMC.
The Wildcats did not go quietly in the seventh scoring four runs. Jake McDaniel hit a two-run homer to make it 7-3. Ivan Vega singled to drive in Bethel's fourth run. Adriel Vega singled making it 7-5 but with two on the Wildcat rally fell short.
JJ Gray took the loss for Bethel while Peyton Smith was the winning hurler for Blue Mountain Christian.
Bethel outhit the Toppers 9-5. The Wildcats had five errors in the game.
The Cats fell to 12-26 on the season while the Toppers snapped a six-game losing streak and improved to 22-17.
Bethel travels to Freed-Hardeman this weekend for an MSC series against the Lions. The teams play a single game Friday at 5 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon.
