HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats won the series opener of a three-game weekend set at Freed-Hardeman Friday, beating the Lions 4-2.
Timely hitting and strong pitching were the keys for the Cats who moved to 13-9 overall and 10-6 in the MSC. The Lions dropped to 15-15 and 8-3.
Alex Valcarcel went eight innings to pick up the win. Giovannie Nieves pitched a scoreless ninth.
The Wildcats scored single runs in the 5th and 7th innings but the big blow of the game was a Jack Surber two-run homer in the 6th. Baylor Steelman had two hits and accounted for the other RBI's. Jacob Foster had two hits and scored a run. Juan Torres had one hit and scored two runs.
The squads will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
