MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats battled back from a 4-0 deficit to Loyola Friday afternoon at the Kahlden Complex but gave up a run in the top of the ninth and lost 5-4 in the series opener against the Pack.
Trailing by four, the Wildcats chipped away with a single run in the fifth behind a Jack Surber RBI single. They added another run in the seventh with a Juan Torres RBI single. Nick Proto and Jacob Foster drove in runs in the eighth to tie the game.
Giovannie Nieves suffered the loss.
The Cats are 7-7 at home on the season and 8-9 overall. Bethel fell to 1-3 in the SSAC.
Loyola is 17 -7 and 2 -2 in league action. The Pack is 4-0 in road games on the season.
The two squads square off for a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon.
