MCKENZIE, Tenn. – Solid pitching and timely hitting enabled the Bethel Wildcats to sweep the Loyola Wolf Pack in a doubleheader at the Kahlden Complex in McKenzie Saturday.
Game one saw Marco Santa go the distance firing a four-hitter to pick up the win in a 4-0 shutout. A three-run third proved to be the difference for the Wildcats. They also pushed across an insurance run in the sixth. Jacob Foster led the Cats driving in two runs. Jack Surber and Ruber Medina each drove in single runs.
The Wildcats built a 6-0 cushion in game two and had to hold on withstanding a six-run Loyola rally in the eighth. A two run fourth proved to be the key in the 8-7 victory. Surber drove in three runs while Colby Carey had two RBI's. Nick Proto, Randy Guevarez and Sabastian Cortez each had one RBI. Alex Valcarcel picked up the win while Giovannie Nieves was credited with the save.
The Cats moved to 10-9 overall and 3-3 in the SSAC.
Loyola dropped to 17 -9 and 2 -4 in league action.
The Wildcats resume action Tuesday playing host to Missouri Valley Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
