Bat Cats Upset No. 8 FHU

MCKENZIE, Tenn. –Wet conditions forced the Bethel Wildcats and the Freed-Hardeman Lions to play a single nine inning game instead of a scheduled doubleheader Tuesday. The Wildcats settled for the one game with a 5-4 upset of the No. 8 Lions.

FHU took a one run lead in the first only to see the Cats score two in the bottom of the inning. Jacob Foster drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly. Ruber Medina doubled in a run later in the inning. The Lions scored two runs in the third to retake the lead at 3-2. The sixth proved to be the difference however as the Wildcats took a 5-3 lead scoring three runs. After Nick Proto doubled he would score later on FHU error. Trevor Roof drove in a run with a RBI single. Jack Surber scored later in the inning when Paul Rahman was hit by a pitch. The Lions scored a single run in the seventh but the Wildcats hung on to even their record at 8-8 on the year.

Antonio Costas picked up the win while Alexis Rodriguez was credited with the save.

Freed-Hardeman fell to 13-3 on the season. The loss snapped an eight game winning streak by FHU. It was the 36th meeting between the two programs in a series which is now tied at 18-18.

The game marked the beginning of a six game home stand for the Wildcats.

The Bat cats return to action hosting Loyola in a SSAC three game series Friday and Saturday. The teams play a doubleheader Friday beginning at 4 p.m. and a single game Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
