MOBILE, Ala. – The Bethel Wildcats opened SSAC play traveling to Mobile for a three game weekend set and Friday proved to be a tough day for the Bat Cats. The Rams won game one 5-4 in 11 innings and then took game two 3-0.
Baylor Steelman had three of Bethel's 11 hits in game one. Nick Proto had two hits and had an RBI. Jacob Foster had two hits and drove in two runs. Logan Beecham also drove in a run. Alexis Rodriguez was charged with the loss.
Mobile's Hunter Avery fired a five-hitter in game two as the Cats were shutout for the first time on the season. Brandon Degnegaard pitched well for Bethel but suffered the loss.
It was Mobile's sixth straight win in the series. The Wildcats dropped to 6-8 and 0-2. The No. 24 Rams improved to 16-3 and 2-0.
The two teams meet again Saturday at 1 p.m. at Jacobs Field.
