MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats and the Olivet Nazarene Tigers battled to a doubleheader split Saturday afternoon in McKenzie. Bethel won game one 7-4 while the Tigers captured game two 3-1.
In game one the Wildcats jumped out to an early lead with a five-run first. The Cats had 11 hits in the win. Brandon Armor drove in two runs. Logan Beecham, Nick Proto, Jacob Foster and Randy Guevarez each drove in single runs. Marco Santa picked up the win while Giovannie Nieves was credited with the save.
The Wildcats outhit the Tigers in game two 6-5 but middle inning runs by ONU proved to be the difference. The Tigers pushed across one run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth. The Wildcats lone run came on an RBI double by Proto in the sixth.
Brandon Degnegaard pitched well but suffered the Wildcat loss. Bethel's Antonio Costas pitched two shutout innings in relief.
The Wildcats finished the day at 6-6 while ONU headed home at 2-6.
Bethel travels to the University of Mobile for a weekend series next Friday and Saturday.
