MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The No. 10 Bethel Wildcat men's soccer team remained unbeaten on the season with a 6-2 home win over (RV) Cumberland University Tuesday night at Wildcat Stadium. Bethel moved to 7-0-1 while the Phoenix dropped to 4-2. It is the best start to a season for Bethel since 2009-2010.
The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead at the 31:45 mark on a goal by Pascal Mohungsi. After a Phoenix goal by Martin Walsh tied the match, Bethel's Damani Harris gave the Wildcats a 2-1 lead at the break.
Second period scores by Matheus Reis and Aliou Diop broke the game open to give the Cats a 4-1 lead. Silvio Xavier scored on a penalty kick goal and the Wildcats led 5-1 with less than 20 minutes remaining in the game. Xavier also had an assist in the period. Adrian Mbauni added to the onslaught with a goal on an assist from Mohungsi. Cumberland added a late goal to make it a 6-2 final. Leandro Faria recorded four saves for the Wildcats.
Bethel outshot CU 19-8 and had an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal.
The Wildcats resume play Saturday night in Campbellsville, Kentucky against the Campbellsville University Tigers with action slated for 6 p.m. CST.
