MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats jumped 11 spots in the 2019 NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll moving to No. 10 Wednesday and they proved worthy of the ranking defeating NCAA D-II opponent Christian Brothers University 3-1 in Memphis Wednesday night.
Bethel's Michael Nwafor put the Cats up 1-0 with a goal at the 20:18 mark of the first period. CBU's Maximillian Galizzi scored nine minutes later to tie the match at 1-1. That score would hold up the remainder of the half and both squads went to the break with one goal each. CBU had a 5-2 advantage in shots while both teams had two shots on goal at the break.
Fifteen minutes into the second period Nwafor scored again to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead. Jaiquan Bristol scored in the last minute of the match giving Bethel the 3-1 victory.
Bethel had an 11-8 advantage in shots and had a 7-2 mark in shots on goal. Bethel did not allow the Bucs a shot on goal in the second period.
Bethel moved to 6-0 while CBU dropped to 1-2-0.
Bethel returns home for a match versus LSU-Shreveport Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
