MCKENZIE, Tenn. – After playing nine of their last ten games on the road the Bethel Wildcats jump started a nine game home stand Friday night hosting # 8 Middle Georgia State in a SSAC three game set at the Kahlden Complex in McKenzie.
The visiting Knights lived up to their lofty ranking winning both games of the Friday doubleheader 7-4 and 8-5.
The Wildcats rode the bat of Jack Surber in game one and led 4-2 after four. Surber doubled in a run in the first and then socked a three run homer in the fourth to give the Wildcats the two run lead. The Knights rallied however with three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to beat the Cats 7-4. Billy Price suffered the Wildcat loss while Preston Sparks picked up the Knight win.
In game two the Wildcat trailed 4-0 entering the bottom of the sixth. Juan Torres scored on a passed ball to make it 4-1. Surber followed later in the inning with another three run homer to tie the game at 4-4. The Knights scored a run in the top of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead. Bethel's Austin Brenner tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a sacrifice fly. MGS came right back however and exploded for three in the top of the eighth to take an 8-5 lead. The Cats failed to score in the final two innings and MGS held on for their sixth straight win. Devin Harriman picked up the Knight win while Danny Lara was charged with the Bethel loss.
Bethel dropped to 20-15 and 9-8 in the SSAC. The Knights moved to 29-8 and 14-3.
The squads play a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.
