MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Bethel Wildcats pounded out 14 hits and scored 14 runs in a 14-0 second game victory over Brewton-Parker Friday night. The win gained the Cats a split in their doubleheader in Mount Vernon.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the first, four in the third, one in the fourth and seven runs in the eighth to rout the Barons. Juan Torres hit two homers and drove in four runs. Austin Brenner had three doubles and drove in three runners. The Wildcats had a season high six doubles in the win. Nicholas Proto and Jack Surber had two RBI's each. Lucas Riddick and Ruber Medina each had single RBI's. Brandon Degnegaard went the distance allowing just six hits to pick up the win.
Game one featured 27 runs, 30 hits and five errors. The Barons won 16-11 in the slugfest. Bethel scored three runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings. They added two in the seventh. BPU scored five runs in the fifth and third innings. They added four in the fifth and two more tallies in the sixth.
Bethel's Baylor Steelman led Bethel's offense driving in four runs. Nicholas Proto slugged a three run homer while Jacob Foster also had three RBI's. Sebastian Cortes drove in a run. Trevor Bishop suffered the Wildcat loss while Jacob Johnson was the winner for BPC.
Bethel is 19-12 overall and 9-5 in the SSAC. BPC is 15-23 and 8-6.
The teams play a single game Saturday beginning at noon.
