MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats ran their record to 18-11 with a non-conference win over longtime rival Cumberland University Monday afternoon. The Wildcats won over the visiting Phoenix 5-2. Cumberland fell to 20-10 on the season.
Trailing 1-0 the Wildcats tied the game in the fourth on an RBI double by Austin Brenner. The Cats scored two runs in the seventh and added two more runs in the eighth. CU scored single runs in the first and seventh.
Brenner had four of Bethel's eight hits. Three of those were doubles as he finished with two RBI's. Lucas Riddick and Juan Torres each drove in single runs.
Bretton Hazlewood picked up the Wildcat win while Giovannie Nieves was credited with the save.
The Wildcats travel to conference foe Brewton-Parker for a weekend series beginning Friday. The squads play a doubleheader Friday at noon and a single game Saturday at noon.
