CLEVELAND, MS – The Bethel Wildcats stepped out of regular season play Saturday traveling to Cleveland, Mississippi to meet Delta State in an exhibition. The Statesmen counted the game as a regular season affair and in doing so fell to 4-6 as Bethel pulled off the upset, winning 86-67. Bethel tied the series between the two at 2-2.
The Wildcats used an 18-4 run in the last seven minutes of the first half to lead 49-35 at the half. The Wildcats never let up and won easily sending the Delta crowd home early.
The Cats shot a blistering 55 percent hitting 32-of-58 shots from the floor. They knocked down eight three-pointers and were 14-of-18 from the free throw line. DSU shot 36 percent hitting 22-of-60 shots. They hit five three's and were 18-of-25 from the charity stripe. The Wildcats had a 38-28 advantage in points in the paint and a commanding 42-14 margin in points off the bench. Bethel won the battle of the boards at 39-29.
Kamron Rose scored a career high 19 points to lead Bethel in scoring. Cayden Edmonson had 14 points while Foday Sankaray had 11 on the day. Bethel's Jarred Walker had a game high 11 assists. Michael Motley led DSU with 18 points.
The Wildcats return to action Tuesday night as they host the Fisk Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
