MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats returned to regular season play hosting Fisk Tuesday night in Crisp Arena. The Wildcats were coming off an impressive 86-67 exhibition win at Delta State.
The Cats moved to 7-3 on the season with a 91-66 win over the visitors from Nashville. The Bulldogs lost their eighth straight and fell to 2-13. Bethel leads the series between the two programs 6-1.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 27-4 lead and led at the half 46-26. The Bulldogs would pull to within 11 at 60-49 in the second half but Bethel withstood the Fisk run and pulled away to win big.
The Cats shot 49 percent from the floor while Fisk shot 41 percent. Bethel had a commanding 53-31 rebound advantage. The Wildcats had a 67-24 advantage in points in the paint. Bethel also had a 29-11 margin in points off turnovers. Fisk had 21 turnovers while Bethel had 20 on the night.
Cayden Edmonson led all scorers with 24 points. He is 58 shy of becoming Bethel's 30th player ever to score 1,000 points or more in program history. Three other Bethel players finished in double figures. Jacob Rose matched his career high with 12, Javonte Ellis had 11 and Myron McKinney finished with 10 points. Jarred Walker had a game high eight assists. Bethel had 27 assists in the game.
Coach Jeff Britt was pleased with his squad and their effort. "I thought the way we started was really big. Fisk is a dangerous team and they have several key players who can score. Our inside game was a huge difference and I thought we looked for each other in great fashion tonight."
The Wildcats host the BU Christmas Classic Friday and Saturday.
