MCKENZIE, Tenn. – For the seventh time this season the Bethel Wildcats went to overtime playing host to the Brewton-Parker Barons in what turned out to be a thriller at Wildcat Stadium Saturday. The Cats won in double overtime 2-1. They have a 3-2-2 mark in those games.
It was Senior Day for the Wildcats with seniors, Samuel Boatneg, Jaiquan Bristol, Jose Amuedo, Liam Cleeton, Louis Sharp and Alvaro Calhau being honored in pre-game ceremonies.
A first period goal by Pascal Mohungsi gave Bethel a 1-0 lead. Joshua McNaught had the assist on the score. BPU's Akins Banton scored with 27 seconds left in the period to tie the game. The teams were scoreless in the second frame. With 6:28 left in the second extra period Damani Haris handed the Cats a big conference victory.
Bethel dominated in shots at 25-2 and had a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal.
The No. 15 Wildcats moved to 11-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the SSAC. They have a 6-1-2 home mark. Bethel leads the series between the two programs at 7-0. BPU fell to 5-8-1 and 1-5.
The Wildcats return to action Thursday at (RV) Dalton State SSAC action beginning at 6:30 CST.
