HATTIESBURG, MS- The Bethel Lady Wildcats split their two matches in Hattiesburg, Mississippi Saturday. They beat William Carey in their first match 3-0 but were swept later 3-0 by Xavier.
The Lady Cats swept the Lady Crusaders winning 25-16, 25-21 and 25-17. It was Bethel's fifth consecutive win. They moved to 14-10 and 8-2 in the SSAC. WCU fell to 14-15 and 5-5. It was Bethel's second win over William Carey on the season. They beat WCU in five sets back on September 14 in Crisp Arena. Bethel leads the series between the two at 6-3.
Arielly de Souza led the Lady Cats with 17 kills and 11 digs. Hannah McGowan followed with 15 kills and 11 digs. Madison Ralph had 21 digs. Katelyn Van Hooser and Maggie Brooks each had 22 assists.
Xavier won 25-23, 25-19 and 25-18. They improved to 24-5 on the season while Bethel dropped to 14-11.
De Souza had 17 kills. McGowan was solid again with 11 kills and 10 digs. Van Hooser had 16 assists while Brooks added 13 dimes in the match. Ralph finished with 15 digs.
The Lady Cats return home Monday to host Lyon College at 5 p.m.
