MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats won their season opening match Tuesday night in Crisp Arena defeating the Bearcats of Brescia 3-1.
The Lady Wildcats took set one 25-17. Brescia came back with a 19-25 win in set two. The Lady Cats won set three 25-18 and set four 25-19.
Freshman Hannah McGowan had a sterling debut for Bethel with a match high 18 kills. Senior Jessyca Watson followed with 15 kills while junior Racheal Gunn had 11 kills. Katelyn Van Hooser picked right up where she left off after her outstanding freshman season with a match high 26 assists. Another super sophomore Brooke Burress contributed with 23 assists. Senior Giulia Zilotti added 13 digs in the victory. Chloe Hopper had five blocks for the Cats.
While Bethel moved to 1-0 the Bearcats dropped to 1-4 on the season.
Bethel Coach Starla Cupples said, "All in all we are pleased to get this first win under our belts. Brescia had already played several matches and that concerned us. I though we settled in and had good contributions from our veterans and some of our new players as well. We had great support tonight and we are thankful for our fans and their help."
Bethel plays host to Williams Baptist Saturday at 1 p.m.
