MCKENZIE, Tenn. –Bethel Baseball Coach Rusty Thompson along with his staff and players have always taken great pride in giving back to the community and area. From cleaning yards for the elderly to working various civic events the Bat Cats have volunteered their services each year as part of the NAIA Champions of Character Initiative.
Recently the team and coaching staff visited the McKenzie Cumberland Presbyterian Church and worked with the local boy scouts. The players participated in different group events including fear factor activities.
The NAIA Champions of Character program helps participants find the balance by keeping five core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership- at the heart of the athletics experience.
Coach Thompson stated, "This was another one of those activities which was special for our guys to be a part of. We receive as much of a blessing as those young people we work with each year. It also encourages our players to give back and helps them realize how much of an influence each one of them can be in a young person's life."
