MARTIN, Tenn. –Coming on the heels of a 16-10 weekend loss to Middle Georgia State the Bethel Wildcats found themselves involved in another slugfest Tuesday night at Tennessee-Martin. Unfortunately for the Cats it was another loss in another high scoring affair. The Wildcats dropped their third straight game falling to the SkyHawks 19-13.
UTM exploded scoring twelve runs in the bottom of the third inning. They added a single run in the fourth.
The Wildcats countered with a four-run fifth inning. Christian Padin had an RBI single. Lucas Riddick drove in two runs with a double in the inning. Colin Roberts also drove in a run in the inning.
The SkyHawk offense was relentless adding three more runs in the fifth to lead 16-4 after five.
The Wildcats battled back with a big inning of their own pushing across six runs in the top of the seventh. Zach Crocker had a three run double. Jack Surber drove in a run while Roberts added another RBI. The Wildcats scored two unearned runs in the inning.
With the score 16-10 the Hawks padded their lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Cats did not go quietly scoring three runs in the ninth. Kendall Adkisson, Riddick and Roberts each drove in a run for the Wildcats.
Bethel had 14 hits but UTM countered with a 21-hit attack. Hayden Edwards suffered the loss for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats dropped to 10-9 on the season while UTM snapped a three game losing streak improving to 6-4 on the year.
Bethel returns to action hosting Cincinnati Christian in a pair of doubleheaders Friday and Saturday. The teams meet Friday at 1 p.m. and Saturday at noon.
