HATTIESBURG, MS – The Bethel Wildcats hung on at No. 9 William Carey winning their sixth straight game beating the Crusaders in Hattiesburg Friday afternoon. WCU scored four runs in the seventh but Bethel escaped with a 5-4 victory.
Zach Crocker had a two-run RBI double in the second inning. Jack Surber followed with a RBI single in the same inning. Crocker added to the lead with a solo home run in the fourth. Gabriel Matias' RBI single in the fifth proved to be the game winner.
Trevor Bishop picked up his fifth win of the season. Axle Metzger was credited with the save. Devin Smith suffered the loss.
The Wildcats moved to 19-12 overall and 6-4 in the SSAC. William Carey dropped their fourth in a row and fell to 23-10 and 9-4.
The two team meet in a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon.
