HATTIESBURG. MS –The Bethel Wildcats saw their six game winning streak snapped Saturday afternoon at No. 9 William Carey in Hattiesburg losing a twin bill to the Crusaders. WCU won 3-2 and 13-10. Bethel fell to 19-14 overall and 6-6 in the SSAC. WCU snapped a four game losing skid and moved to 25-10 and 11-4.
William Carey jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game one. Colin Roberts pulled Bethel to within 2-1 with a RBI single in the sixth. The Wildcats tied the game in the top of the seventh on a Kendall Adkission RBI sacrifice fly. The Crusaders won scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh. Lane Fazende was the winning pitcher while Brady Jones suffered the loss.
In game two it was Bethel which jumped out to a 2-0 lead. RBI's by Lucas Riddick gave the Wildcats the 2-0 margin.
The Crusaders struck back mightily with a six run third. The Wildcats fought back with a three run fourth. Roberts led the inning off with a homer. A few batters later Christian Padin drew a bases loaded walk and later Adkission singled to pull Bethel to within a run at 6-5.
WCU got the runs back with a three runs in the bottom of the inning and led 9-5.
The Wildcats battled back with a two run fifth. Jack Surber drove in a run and Roberts scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-7 but as in previous innings WCU answered scoring two in the bottom of the inning and took an 11-7 margin after five.
Roberts had an RBI single in the sixth to make it 11-8.
The Wildcats scored two in the seventh on a two run single by Riddick but the tough day for both pitching staff continued as WCU scored two in the bottom of the inning to lead 13-10.
Both teams had 14 hits each but struggled on defense with a combined six errors. Bethel committed four of the six miscues. Dylan Spiers picked up the victory while Steven White was charged with the loss.
The Wildcats return to action Wednesday traveling to Cumberland University with action beginning in the single game at 2p.m.
