MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats won their second straight game with an 82-68 win over Philander Smith Saturday night in the 4th Annual Chick-Fil-A Classic in Crisp Arena. Bethel moved to 4-4 while the Panthers fell to 3-2 on the season.
In the earlier game of the Classic Blue Mountain dropped an 81-74 decision to Missouri Valley. The Toppers left McKenzie at 2-2 while the Vikings traveled back to Marshall, Missouri at 6-1.
The Cats shot 44 percent from the field hitting 29-of-65 shots. The Wildcats hit 21- of- 26 free throw attempts. Bethel had a commanding advantage in rebounding at 42-23. For the second night in a row Bethel won despite having more turnovers than their opponent. Bethel committed 23 turnovers while Life has 20 in the game. The Wildcats outscored Life 59-28 in the paint and had a 41-17 advantage in bench production.
Isaac Edmondson continued his sparkling play with 17 points. He scored 48 points in the two games over the weekend. Charles Cobb came off the Bethel bench with a career high 14 points. Cayden Edmondson scored a career high 12 points. He finished off his double-double night with a game high 11 rebounds.
Chris Journet led the Panthers with 23 points.
Edmondson along with Chase Nappier were named to the All-Classic team.
Coach Jeff Britt said, "We are pleased to win both of these games in the Classic. We feel we beat two really good teams. Our kids are playing with some confidence and are working to get better. We are happy we are getting contributions from our entire squad. Cayden was a big part of both wins and is playing with great energy. "
The Wildcats step out of regular season play Wednesday to face Austin Peay State University in an exhibition game in the Shaw Fitness Center on the Fort Campbell, Kentucky Military facility. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The game along with several other activities is in recognition of Veterans Day. The University is hosting several events during the month of November in honor of the men and women who have and are serving our country.
This game against the Wildcats will be the first-ever contest involving collegiate basketball programs at Fort Campbell, and it will mark the first APSU home game away from the Dunn Center since that facility opened in 1975.
Coach Britt stated, "It's a privilege and honor to be able to play Austin Peay at Fort Campbell. Our country owes our troops a very special thanks. Coming from a military family it means a lot to me personally. We look forward to being a part of this special game."
