Cats Snap Losing Streak with Impressive Win over MVC

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats snapped a four game losing streak with an impressive bounce back 84-76 win over previously unbeaten Missouri Valley College Friday night in the 4th Annual Chick-Fil-A Classic in McKenzie. Bethel moved to 3-4 while the Vikings fell to 5-1 on the year.

In the earlier game of the Classic Blue Mountain won over Philander Smith 74-70. The Toppers improved to 2-1 while Philander Smith fell to 3-1.

The game was a night of career highs for the Wildcats. Isaac Edmondson scored a career high 31 points to lead the Cats. Chase Nappier followed with a career high 22 points. Cayden Edmondson came off the Bethel bench and matched his career high of eight points. He also pulled down eight boards. Noah Chatman had six points and a career high and game high 13 rebounds. Braxton Nappier contributed with eight points and a game high six assists. The Bethel bench was a big factor with huge shots from Charles Cobb, Landon Castelli and Conner Boley.

Darryl Lemear led MVC with 19 points. Larry Plummer had 16 points and seven rebounds.

Bethel was 29-of-63 from the field shooting 46 percent. The Wildcats hit nine three-pointers and had their best night of the year shooting 81 percent from the free throw line. They hit 17-of-21 free throws. Bethel out rebounded MVC 41-31. The Wildcats survived committing a season high 28 turnovers in the contest.

The Vikings shot 38 percent from the floor hitting 24-of-62 shots. They hit five three-pointers and were 23-of-33 from the foul line. MVC had 23 turnovers in the game.

Coach Jeff Britt was proud of his squad. "I'm really pleased of how our kids bounced back after Tuesday. To a man they were disappointed and hurt in their performance against Fisk. They worked hard the last two days in getting ready for this challenge. We aren't where we want to be but showed tonight they will not quit."

Saturday the squads flip flop with BMC playing MVC at 2 p.m. Bethel plays Philander Smith at 4 p.m. The Bethel Lady Wildcats will host Life University at 6 p.m.
