HENDERSON, Tenn. – The (RV) Bethel Lady Wildcats and the No. 24 Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions met Saturday in Henderson. It was Bethel's conference opener and the 38th meeting between the two.
The Lions pulled away in the first half and went on to win 65-50. Freed holds a 28-10 advantage in the series.
The Lady Cats jumped out to a 6-2 lead but FHU outscored Bethel 16-6 to lead at the end of the first quarter, 18-12.
The Lions scored seven unanswered points to begin the second quarter and stretched their lead to 25-12. FHU would go on to outscore Bethel 20-7 in the quarter and would lead 38-19 at the half. The Cats hit all eight of their free throw attempts but shot just 21 percent from the field in the half.
The Lions moved out to a 59-37 lead after three quarters.
Freed-Hardeman stretched their lead to 24 at one point (64-40) in the fourth quarter. A late surge by Bethel came up short as FHU won by fifteen.
Bethel had a 31-29 rebound advantage but committed 18 turnovers in the game. Freed had an 18-11 margin in bench points and 30-16 advantage in points in the paint.
Madison Hart led the Lady Cats with 12 points. Alyia Lee had 10 points and a team high six rebounds. Bethel was outstanding from the free throw line, hitting 20-of-21 attempts.
Kelsey Bender led FHU with 13 points. KJ White had 12 points and a game high eight rebounds.
Bethel dropped to 13-4 and 0-1. FHU improved to 16-2 and 2-0. It was Freed's fifth straight win.
Bethel travels to No.3 Campbellsville Thursday with tip-off slated for 4:30 CST. It will be the 20th meeting between the two programs with the Tigers leading the series 16-3. Bethel is 0-7 in Campbellsville.
