Bat Cats Drop Two Games to Open Season

MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcat baseball team opened their season Saturday in the Southwest CC Saluki Tournament in Millington, Tennessee. The games were played at the USA Stadium in Millington.

After leading much of the first game, Bethel saw Culver-Stockton rally with a three run sixth and a one run seventh to beat the Wildcats 4-2.

Bethel's Tyler Proctor pitched well for five innings. Wyatt McKee hits a solo homer for Bethel. Jose Olmeda had an RBI while Adriel Vega had two hits for the Cats. Stats were not available for this game.

Entering the late afternoon game against Missouri Baptist, Bethel had won the last two meetings versus the Spartans. MBU broke the game open in the fourth and sixth innings. They scored all but three of their 18 runs in those innings enroute to an 18-4 win over the Cats.

Bethel's Bryan Catala drove in two runs with a triple. Ivan Vega had an RBI single.  No stats were available for this game.

Coach Rusty Thompson commented, " We lost two tough games today. The first game stung as we had the lead until the sixth. I was proud of how Tyler pitched in his first start as a Wildcat. The second game got away from us, but we expect to bounce back Sunday and play well. We will strive to get the bad taste out of our mouths with two wins hopefully."

Sunday the Wildcats will meet the Faulkner Eagles at 11 a.m. The programs have met 17 teams with the Eagles holding a 13-4 record versus the Wildcats. There will be live stats available for this game at https://faulknereagles.com/sidearmstats/baseball/summary

The Cats will close out the weekend at 3 p.m. Sunday meeting the Culver-Stockton.
