LEBANON, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats completed their series with Cumberland University Sunday. The Cats won game one Friday 14-4. Game two was suspended in the sixth inning due to darkness. The game was completed Sunday with the Wildcats winning 8-2.
Bethel scored four runs in the second. Juan Torres had a two-run single. Jacob Foster also drove in two with a two run double. Foster drove in two more runs in the third. Torres delivered again, driving in two runs in the sixth. Marco Santa picked up his sixth win on the year. Connor Dunman suffered the Phoenix loss.
It was all Cumberland in the final game of the series. The Phoenix rapped out eight hits and gave Coach Woody Hunt a victory in his last home game at CU, winning 11-1. The game marked the end of an era in Cumberland University baseball. The legendary Coach and Hall-of-Famer is retiring after the season. Coach Hunt has over 1,600 career wins in his 41 year storied career.
Noah Hawkins accounted for Bethel's only run with a RBI single in the 7th. Antonio Costas was charged with loss while CU's Payton Rice was the winner.
Bethel is 18-16 overall and 13-10 in the MSC. Cumberland is 22-21 and 7-11 in the conference.
Bethel begins play Friday and Saturday in first round action of the MSC Championship. The opponent and times of the games will be released when determined.
