MCKENZIE, Tenn. –Friday's game between Bethel and visiting Lindsey Wilson was a pitcher's duel at its very best. Bethel's Alex Valcarel and Lindsey's Brady Cappe were locked in a scoreless battle until the bottom of the ninth when the Cats pushed across a run in the bottom of the inning to win 1-0.
After a Jacob Foster lead-off single he advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jack Surber. Nick Proto singled with two out in the inning and the Cats celebrated the walk-off victory.
Valcarel fired a four hitter to pick up the win. Cappe finished with a two-hitter and was the hard luck loser for the Blue Raiders.
Bethel improved to 16-14 overall and 11-8 in the MSC. LWC dropped to 17-20 and 11-11.
The Cats and the Blue Raiders meet again in a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
Senior Day ceremonies will take place Saturday with seniors Sebastian Cortes, Antonio Costas, Nicholas Proto, Jack Surber, Baylor Steelman, Randy Guevarez, Ruber Medina, Giovannie Nieves, Chandler Harmon, Danny Lara and Cody Baker being honored after the two games.
The series marks the last home stand of the season for Bethel.
