Lady Wildcats Beat Pikeville to Advance to MSC Quarterfinals

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats entered postseason play in the opening round of the MSC Championships riding a four game win streak. One of those victories came against the Pikeville Bears who Bethel beat 4-1 on March 21.The Lady Cats made it five wins in a row with a 4-1 win over the winless Lady Bears Monday.

The 5th seeded Lady Cats moved to 9-4-1 and more importantly to quarterfinal action in Columbia, Kentucky Friday. Following opening round action, teams will be reseeded based on regular season winning percentage. Bethel will play 4th seeded Cumberland University at 1:30 p.m.

The Bears ended their year at 0-10.

It didn't take long for the Lady Cats to get on the board as Nicole Szidik scored on an assist from Elvira Martin just 1:07 into the match. The Wildcats scored again with only eight seconds left in the period. Shanearay Wilkins had the goal on an assist from Martin.

Bethel's Jodi Butler made it 3-0 at the 28:38 mark of the second period. The assist was credited to Ainhoa Chirivella Roncero. Pikeville's Mya Holmes scored with less than 19 minutes left to cut into Bethel's margin at 3-1. The assist was given to Libby Lukens. The Lady Cats upped the lead to 4-1 nine minutes later on a goal by Martin. Roncero had the assist. It was Martin's team leading sixth goal of the season.

Bethel had a 32-2 advantage in shots and a 15-2 margin in shots on goal.
