COLUMBIA, Ky. –The Cumberland Phoenix had only allowed two goals all season entering the quarterfinals of the quarterfinals of the MSC tournament in Columbia, Kentucky.
After a scoreless first period, Bethel's Emily Raines scored on a corner kick by Elvira Martin at the 73:39 mark and Bethel led 1-0. Less than four minutes later Cumberland's Arden Butler tied the match with a score.
The game ended tied and after a scoreless first overtime, CU's Jennifer Segura scored four minutes into second extra period give the Phoenix a 2-1 victory. It was Segura's team leading fifth goal of the season.
Bethel is in the Receiving Votes category just outside the Top-25 and still has aspirations to receive a bid to the national tournament. The loss snapped a five game Bethel winning streak and dropped the Lady Cats to 9-5-1 on the year.
The Phoenix moved to 9-2 and will meet top seeded Martin Methodist (15-0) Saturday in the semi-finals.
CU had a 19-9 margin in shots and a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal. Bethel's Shanay Ricketts had an outstanding effort in goal with seven saves on the day.
