HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats began a four game road trip with their annual visit to Freed-Hardeman Monday night. After leading 53-50 at halftime, Bethel was outscored 50-40 in the second half as FHU won, 100-93.
The Wildcats dropped to 9-11 overall and 3-11 in the MSC. The Lions improved to 13-8 and 8-7.
It was the 76th meeting between the two old rivals. Freed holds a 39-37 advantage in the series. Bethel had won two in a row over FHU including a victory earlier this season in McKenzie.
Both squads shot the ball well as Bethel shot 51 percent (33-64) from the field. The Cats knocked down 11 three-pointers and hit 16-of-21 free throws. Freed shot 53 percent (35-66) from the floor and connected on 12 three-pointers. FHU was 18-of-27 from the free throw line. The Lions had a 36-30 advantage in rebounds.
Chandler Clements led Bethel with 22 points. Jon Brown and Jamarius Mayberry each had 18 points while Myron McKinney finished with 16 points.
Wanya King led Freed with 20 points.
Coach Jeff Britt said, "We scored enough to win but did not get enough defensive stops. Mistakes hurt us and that is tough to overcome, especially in this league. We face a tough trip and will have to regroup quickly."
Bethel travels to Thomas More Thursday for another MSC match-up. Tip-off in Crestview Hills, Kentucky is slated for 7 p.m. CST.
