Baseball Drops Home Game to Blue Mountain

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – Both the Bethel Wildcats and the Blue Mountain Toppers were eager to play Tuesday afternoon in McKenzie. Both squads had experienced problems getting games in due to weather and Covid-19 related issues. The Toppers had yet to play with 17 games either being postponed or cancelled. The Wildcats had seen seven recent games cancelled or postponed due to weather factors.

In a matchup of former SSAC conference foes, the Toppers had the better of it with a 12-5 victory.

BMC led 10-0 after six. Bethel scored two in the seventh and three in the ninth but could not overcome the big deficit and dropped to 1-3 on the young season with the loss.

Randy Guevarez had a solo shot for the Cats. Sebastian Cortes, Ruber Medina, Nick Proto and Luke Patterson each drove in single runs for the Wildcats.

Blue Mountain outhit the Wildcats 10-7. Bethel left eight men on base.

Brandon Degnegaard suffered the loss while BMC's Eli Jackson picked up the Topper win.

The Bat Cats return to action hosting MSC foe UPIKE Friday and Saturday. The Cats and Bears will play a single game Friday at 4 p.m. and then play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon.

Precautions and measures for teams, coaches and support staff

  • MSC guidelines are being followed These guidelines include but are not limited to :

1 - Coach/Player education about how to slow/prevent the spread of COVID-19

2 - Daily screening, pre travel screening

3- Cleaning and sanitizing of materials and facilities used and to be used

4 - Dugout maximums

5 - Masks being worn in the dugouts

Precautions for fans & staff –Outside the Playing Field

  • No seating in the bleachers
  • Fans are invited to bring a lawn chair or blanket and sit outside the fence down either side or on the concrete behind the bleachers
  • Masks required when within 6 feet of anyone outside your family group
  • If the distance between your family group and the next is more than six feet no mask required
  • We ask that fans do their best to not intermingle closely with players not in their family group before or after the game
