SHREVEPORT, La. - The Bethel Lady Wildcats remained undefeated at 3-0 with a 2-0 win at LSU-Shreveport Saturday afternoon. LSUS dropped to 4-4-1 on the year.
After a scoreless first period, the Lady Cats took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Elvira Martin. Nia Leslie added a later goal to give Bethel a 2-0 margin. The Lady Cats would go on to win by that score.
Bethel's defense was outstanding again. The Wildcats have only allowed one goal in three matches this year. They allowed the Pilots only seven total shots and three shots on goal. Bethel's Shanay Ricketts had three saves on the day. Bethel had 21 total shots and 13 on goal. LSUS's Carlota Alcalde recorded 11 saves. Jodi Butler was credited with an assist in the contest.
Bethel Coach Misty Aird said, "We had another solid effort today. The weather conditions have not been good on this trip but our ladies battled through that and I cannot express how proud I am of them. Our defense has been impressive and combining that with some timely goals has allowed us to have success thus far."
The Lady Cats are scheduled to host Freed-Hardeman Tuesday in their home opener. Action begins at 5 p.m. in Wildcat Stadium.
