ALEXANDRIA, La. – After winning their season opener at Georgia Gwinnett, the Bethel Wildcats made it two in a row with a 1-0 win at LSUA Thursday afternoon. It was the fourth meeting between the two programs with Bethel now leading the series 3-1. LSUA fell to 0-1 on the season.
The match experienced a long lightning delay in the first period but that did not deter another great effort by the Lady Cats. A first period goal by Ashari Bowen on a corner kick and assist from Marina Hamer was the difference in the match.
It was also another stifling defensive effort by the Lady Wildcats. The Generals had only four total shots and one shot on goal in the match. Bethel had 18 shots and six on goal. Bethel's Shanay Ricketts had one save while Eva Phillips kept the Generals in the match with five saves.
Bethel Coach Misty Aird commented, "We had another solid effort on defense and despite scoring only one goal we kept the pressure on them on the offensive end. You are always concerned about a long delay but our ladies responded nicely I thought. We will rest our legs and get ready for LSUS on Saturday."
The Lady Wildcats return to action at LSUS Saturday with the match beginning at 1 a.m. in Shreveport.
