MCKENZIE, Tenn. –The Bethel Wildcats scored a season high 115 points Thursday night beating visiting Oakland City (Ind.) 115-75. The 115 points are the most Bethel has scored in a game since November, 2018 when they scored 129 versus Welch College.
The Wildcats moved to 9-9 while the Oaks dropped to 4-13. Bethel beat the Oaks 100-88 earlier this season in Oakland City.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 13-0 early lead and despite a couple of rallies by OCU, the Cats led 55-36 at the half. The Wildcats never eased up and outscored the Oaks 60-40 in the second half in route to the big victory.
Bethel owned the boards with a 50-19 advantage. The Cats had 20 offensive rebounds. The Wildcats had a commanding 82-38 margin in points in the paint. Bethel shot 55 percent from the floor and was 19-of-25 from the free throw line.
Bethel's Chandler Clements had a game high 23 points. Jon Brown was solid with 19 tallies. Kamron Rose and Yassine Zlitni scored 12 each. Fourteen different Wildcats scored in the game.
Jacob Sanford and Nathaniel Schmittler each scored 14 for the Oaks.
Coach Jeff Britt said, "I was pleased with our early start and first half. The game allowed us to play a lot of people tonight and that is important as we hit the second half in stride. Chandler and Jon gave us the scoring punch we have to have from them. Kam had another solid effort and it was good to see Yassine get some playing time. I thought we got a little lax in the second half at times and we need to be focused, especially with Lindsey Wilson coming in here Thursday. They beat us badly at their place and we need to be ready and try to avenge that loss."
The Cats jump back into league action as they host Lindsey Wilson Thursday night. The game will begin thirty minutes after the conclusion of the women's game which begins at 5:30 p.m. LWC beat the Wildcats 95-70 earlier this season in Columbia.
