MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats opened their season with two impressive wins over visiting Bryan College Saturday at the Kahlden Complex in McKenzie. Bethel won 6-3 and 9-1.
After an Alexis Wheeler single, Gillian Grahn slugged a two run homer in the first to give the Cats a 2-0 lead. Melanie Alexander followed with a two run homer in the second and Bethel led 4-0. Macy Cox and Kennedy Gillespie provided RBI doubles in the fifth and that was more than enough for the Lady Wildcats to win the opener. Billie Douglas who went seven innings allowing just five hits picked up the victory. Bethel finished with ten hits in the game.
In game two the Lady Cats pounded out 11 hits and cruised to the 9-1 win. Alexander drove in three runs with four hits. Wheeler, Grahn and Cox each drove in two runs for the Cats, Maddie Cochran picked up the win allowing just six hits.
Bethel resumes play Tuesday hosting No. 5 Lindsey Wilson in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
