MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats and the Robert Morris Eagles fought the cold weather at the Kahlden Complex Friday afternoon in McKenzie and in the end it proved to be good day for the Lady Wildcats as they swept the Eagles 10-2 and 2-0.
Game one saw RMU score two runs in the first. The Lady Cats answered with a single run in the first, three in the third, one in the 3rd and finished with a five run fifth. Macey Cox led the Cat attack with three hits and three RBI's. Gillian Grahn drove in two runs while Melanie Alexander, Alexis Wheeler, Leah Hayes and Anna Johnson each drove in single runs. Bethel outhit RMU 14-5. Maddie Cochran picked up the five inning victory yielding just five hits to the Eagles.
Game two saw Billie Douglas strike out 11 and gave up just three hits to pick up the win. Freshman Bailey Bandy slugged a homer in the bottom of the fifth to hand the Lady Cats a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Mackenzie Caldwell singled, stole second and scored on a single from pinch hitter Anna Johnson. Bethel outhit the Eagles 6-3.
Bethel Coach John Weeks was pleased how his team responded in the cold weather and how they reacted to a tight game in game two. "Tonight was a great opportunity to see how we would respond in a tight game and battle the cold conditions. We received a great spark from some of our young players and Billie was stellar on the mound and showed the leadership expected of a senior."
The Lady Wildcats moved to 4-0 on the season. Robert Morris fell to 0-3 on the year.
Bethel returns to action Saturday meeting Robert Morris at noon in a single game and William Woods in a single game at 4 p.m. William Woods will face Robert Morris at 2 p.m.
