MCKENZIE, Tenn. - The (RV) Bethel Wildcats returned to regular season action Thursday night hosting the No. 17 Stillman College Tigers in a SSAC match-up in Crisp Arena.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 7-0 lead at led at the half, 38-25. The Wildcats held the lead much of the second half before the Tigers tied the game at 57 all with seven minutes left. Stillman took a 65-58 lead but Bethel fought back to tie the game at 65-all. The Tigers outscored Bethel 7-2 to win 72-67.
The Wildcats dropped to 9-5 and 1-2 in the SSAC. The Tigers moved to 8-2 and 3-0.
The Wildcats shot 35 percent from the floor hitting 25-of-70 shots while Stillman shot 41 percent hitting 29 of-70 shots. Both squads attempted 27 three-pointers each. Stillman hit seven while Bethel hit five on the night. Bethel had a 51-43 advantage in rebounds. Stillman had a 49-38 advantage in bench points.
Jarred Walker and Cayden Edmonson scored 11 points each. Walker also had 10 assists and eight rebounds. Edmonson had a game high 14 rebounds. Foday Sankaray and Cameron Ricks each contributed with 10 points each.
Prince McDaniel led the Tigers with 16 points.
Coach Jeff Britt said, "This was a tough one to lose. We had the 13 point lead and felt we had a good chance to win. We have fought adversity all week with several kids sick with the flu. We are not making excuses but we also had Charles Cobb out due to the death of his Mother. We are praying for him and his family. We are also praying for Foday who just lost his Father. Give Stillman a lot of credit as they battled back and won. They are a very talented team and we did not make the plays we needed in the last few minutes."
The Wildcats host the Mobile Rams Saturday at 2 p.m. in Crisp.
