MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats outlasted the Crusaders of William Carey Saturday afternoon winning 3-2 over the visitors from Hattiesburg. It was the SSAC opener for Bethel who moved to 5-8 and 1-0. WCU dropped to 7-7 and 1-1.
Bethel won 24-26, 25-15, 26-24, 24-26 and 15-12.
Katelyn Van Hooser led Bethel with 35 assists. Maggie Brooks had 26 dimes in the match. Madison Ralph was superb with 33 digs. Hannah McGowan led the Cats in kills with 24. Rachael Gunn had 13 kills while Maria Azevedo followed with 12 kills.
Coach Starla Cupples was pleased with the win. "This was a hard fought win for us. Our defense made big plays to keep the ball alive for our hitters. My front row did a good job blocking and finding ways to score. We knew it would be a battle as always with William Carey. Our fans were treated to an exciting win today."
Bethel resumes play on September 21 hosting Blue Mountain at 2 p.m. in Crisp Arena.
