ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats lost two heartbreaking marathon five set matches Saturday in the Milligan Mountain Madness. With the losses the Wildcats dropped to 2-7 on the season.
After taking a 2-0 set lead over St. Andrews University (NC), the Lady Cats dropped the next three sets, falling 3-2 to the Knights. Bethel fell 25-15, 25-16, 23-25, 16-25 and 14-16. Hannah McGowan recorded 16 kills and 15 digs. Katelyn Van Hooser had 26 assists. Maggie Brooks had 21 assists. Madison Ralph finished with 17 digs while Brianna Monk had 21 digs in the match.
Bethel concluded the tournament versus host school Milligan College. Again a five set match was the rule. The Cats lost 28-26, 15-25, 23-25, 25-19 and 6-15. McGowan led the Cats with 22 kills and 14 digs. Van Hooser had 22 assists and 14 digs. Brooks had 19 assists. Ralph had 22 digs while Monk had 19 digs in the match. Alex Lipsey had 14 kills.
Bethel's McGowan was named to the all-tournament squad.
Bethel returns to action Tuesday at Lyon College. The Lady Cats lead the series 8-7 and have won seven in a row in the series.
