Hattiesburg, MS – The Bethel Lady Wildcats dropped both games of their doubleheader to William Carey Saturday afternoon in Hattiesburg. The two wins gave the Crusaders a sweep in the four game weekend series. WCU won 3-2 and 9-4. The Crusaders had won 8-2 and 2-1 Friday.
In game one Bethel scored two runs in the fifth. Madison White doubled and then scored later on a WCU throwing error. Madisen Adkins scored on a fielder's choice on a batted ball by Iesha Kizer. William Carey rallied scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth. WCU scored all three runs with two outs in the inning. The game winner was a two run homer by Kaitlyn Thompson. Maddie Cochran suffered the loss while Haley Nations was the winner.
In game two big innings by William Carey proved to be the difference. They scored four runs in the first and five runs in the fifth. Bethel picked up single runs in the third and fifth. They added two runs in the seventh but fell short dripping their fifth straight game. Kizer drove in two runs while White had the other RBI for Bethel. The Lady Cats committed five errors in the game. Jezabelle Quintana was charged with the loss while WCU's Lindsey Johnson picked up the win.
Bethel fell to 23-20 overall and 15-13 in the SSAC. Bethel 2-14 all-time in Hattiesburg. The Crusaders improved to 34-12 and 22-6. WCU has won seven straight.
Bethel closes out the regular season Friday and Saturday at Faulkner. Doubleheader action begins Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
