Hattiesburg, Miss. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats dropped both games of their doubleheader to William Carey Friday afternoon in Hattiesburg. WCU won game one 8-2 and captured game two 2-1 in eight innings.
In game one No. 15 William Carey scored six runs in the first and two in the second. Bethel scored two runs in the top of the second. Lexee Miller drove in Alexis Wheeler and Madison White with a two run RBI single. Maddie Cochran suffered the Bethel loss while WCU's Haley Nations fired a complete game three-hitter for the win. The Crusaders out hit Bethel 8-3 and both teams committed two errors each.
William Carey took a 1-0 lead scoring a run in the fifth inning in game two. Wheeler drove in Madisen Adkins in the top of the sixth to tie the game. WCU scored the game winner in the bottom of the eighth. Cochran was tagged with the loss while Lindsey Johnson picked up the win allowing just five hits. Bethel left nine runners on base in the game.
Bethel fell to 23-18 overall and 15-11 in the SSAC. Bethel has dropped three straight and is 2-12 all-time in Hattiesburg. The Crusaders improved to 32-12 and 20-6. WCU has won five straight.
The two squads play another twin bill Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
