MCKENZIE, Tenn. – Two baseball squads which had combined for 54 wins clashed Friday night at the Kahlden Complex in McKenzie as the Bethel Wildcats played host to the No. 2 Faulkner Eagles. Bethel entered play at 21-15 overall and 10-8 in the SSAC. Faulkner began at 33-8 and 17-1.
The game was tied at 1-1 after three but the Eagles scored two runs in the fourth, one in the seventh and iced the game away with a five run ninth to win 9-1. It was Faulkner's 12th straight win. The Eagles outhit the Wildcats 10-7. Evan Gillespie picked up the road win while Bethel's Bretton Hazlewood suffered the loss. Austin Brenner accounted for Bethel's only run with an RBI in the third.
The teams play a doubleheader Friday beginning at 1 p.m.
