WESTWEGO, La. -The Bethel Wildcats completed a three game sweep of Loyola Saturday in Westwego, Louisiana beating the Pack 5-3. Bethel had won Friday's games 7-1 and 11-4.
The victory was the 300th career win for Coach Rusty Thompson.
It was the fourth straight win for Bethel who improved to 12-8 overall and 3-3 in the SSAC. Loyola dropped to 11-12 and 0-6. Bethel leads the overall series between the programs 15-2.
The Wildcats jumped out to 3-0 lead in the third on a two-run homer by Lucas Riddick and a RBI single by Austin Brenner.
Baylor Steelman drove in what to be the game winner with an RBI in the seventh. Loyola scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Cats added an insurance run in the ninth as a result of a wild pitch.
Bethel outhit Loyola 11-9.
Bethel's Billy Price got the win which moved his record to 3-0 on the season. Giovannie Nieves was credited with the save.
Coach Rusty Thompson was pleased with his team's play and the sweep. "This was a great trip for our squad and I am really proud of how we responded after struggling a few games ago. Our bats were active and combining that with a strong effort from our pitching staff were huge factors in our play."
The Wildcats return home for a weekend series Friday and Saturday hosting SSAC opponent Stillman College. The squads play a doubleheader Friday at noon and a single affair Saturday starting at noon.
