MCKENZIE, Tenn. – As a result of their doubleheader sweep Friday the Bethel Lady Wildcats took three out of four games in their series versus Martin Methodist. The Cats won 11-3 and 10-2.
Bethel used a ten run third inning to win game one. They sent 15 hitters to the plate in the inning.
Jezabelle Quintana knocked in two runs with a two-run homer. It marked the third straight game Quintana homered. Alexis Wheeler, Melanie Alexander and Gillian Grahn each drove in two runs. Maddie Cochran, Lexee Miller and Madison White each had an RBI. Bethel outhit the Hawks 12-8.
Quintana was the winner while Kaylee Davis suffered the MMU loss.
Game two saw Bethel score four runs in the second and fourth innings. They added single runs in the fifth and sixth fames. Bethel outhit MMU 14-4 in the game. Wheeler drove in three runs. Alexander, Quintana, Iesha Kizer, Darcie Gibson, Grahn and Julia Abney each had single RBI's.
Billie Douglas picked up the win while Breanna Owens suffered the Hawk loss.
The Lady Cats are 18- 13 overall and 12-6 in the league. Martin Methodist is 15-16 and 8-8.
The weekend series and 18 wins exceeds the entire win total of 15 by the Lady Cats last season.
Coach John Weeks commented, "I was very pleased with our effort this weekend. I felt that this was the first true weekend our players began to realize just how far this team has come. We've had players step up in big moments and are beginning to click offensively. This team is beginning to see the game that Coach Elantra and I are trying to show them. We've preached on 'buying in.' Now they get it. This will be a really tough team down the stretch and I look forward to seeing them continue to progress. They all are realizing that each one of them could be 'The One', and also realize it's amazing what a team can accomplish when no one cares who gets the credit."
Bethel plays host to Lane College Tuesday with action beginning at 4 p.m.
