MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats returned home for doubleheaders Thursday and Friday versus SSAC rival Martin Methodist. Game one Thursday marked the 50th meeting between the two programs with Martin Methodist holding a commanding advantage in the series at 40-9. Entering the game Bethel was 4-17 at home versus the visitors from Pulaski.
That domination was somewhat subsided Thursday as Bethel split the two games with the visitors from Pulaski.
In game one Martin Methodist won 7-2. The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first after a two-run homer by Jezabelle Quintana. The RedHawks tied the game with two runs in the third. They sent 10 hitters to the plate in inning five and scored five runs. MMU outhit Bethel 8-6. Both squads struggled in the field combining for five errors. MMU had two while Bethel committed three mistakes in the game. Five of MMU's runs were unearned. Billie Douglas suffered the loss while Kaylee Davis picked up the Hawk victory.
In game two the Lady Wildcats bounced back with a 5-3 victory. Madisen Adkins and Alexis Wheeler drove in single runs in the second. Iesha Kizer slugged a two run homer in the third and Quintana hit her second home run of the day in the fifth. Maddie Cochran was the winning hurler going the distance while Victoria Haugness was charged with the MMU loss.
The Lady Cats are 16-13 overall and 10-6 in the league. Martin Methodist is 15-14 and 8-6.
The two squads square off for another twin bill Friday at 3 p.m.
