MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel University men's and women's tennis teams opened their seasons Friday at the Bethel Tennis Complex. The Cats made the debuts of new tennis coach Derrick Hubble a very successful one on both sides.
Both squads beat Lane College 9-0.
In women's action Elena Fochs, Rosselle Dorero, London Martin, Allison Smarsh, Brooke Daniels and Haley Cooper won their single matches. In doubles action Marcela Donatoni and Fochs won. Dorero and Martin were also victorious. Smarsh and Daniels also enjoyed a successful day.
In men's action Lorenz Bialkowski, John Griffith, Igor Konno, Jamie Julve, Vini Ribeiro and Reece Hassell won their singles matches. Bialkowski and Griffith won in doubles play. Konno and Ribeiro teamed up for the win while Julve and Hassell also won in doubles action.
Bethel will play host to Milligan College Saturday at noon.
They open SSAC action February 14 at the University of Mobile in the SSAC Round-up.
Coach Hubble commented on the wins. "I thought both squads played well. It was frigid with the temperature and winds but they braved those elements and toughed it out. I am proud of their efforts and we look forward to facing two excellent Milligan teams tomorrow."
