MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats split their matches Saturday at home versus Milligan College. All four squads fought through cold and windy conditions throughout the day. The Bethel men won 5-4 while the Lady Cats fell 8-1.
The Wildcats start at 2-0 on the season is the best since 2013.
Coach Derrick Hubble was pleased with both squads. "Our ladies faced a tough challenge in Milligan but all in all I was very pleased with our effort and how we played. They all battled and are continuing to have great attitudes and I feel our persistence will pay off in the future. Marcela (Donatoni) played well and won her match. I am proud of them all."
Hubble expressed his thoughts about the men's match. "The guys match was tough from start to finish. The opportunity to play a talented team like Milligan will help prepare us for our conference play which we begin this next week. I am especially proud of the senior leadership of Zack Vanderboegh and Lorenz Bialkowski. Zack stepped up to win his match 6-4 and 6-4. That gave us a 4-3 lead heading into the final two matches. Lorenz was clutch as his match was tied at 4-4 and he prevailed. I told him to play his game and stay under control. He did just that winning 6-3 and 6-0. Just as with the ladies, I am really proud of our men's team. They gave us a strong effort and we are talented enough to get the job done every match."
The teams open SSAC action February 14 at the University of Mobile in the SSAC Round-up.
